The treasure is the reading

Douglas County Libraries recently wrapped up its 2010 summer reading program, “Treasure it!” Library patrons outdid expectations, completing the program in record-setting numbers.

Nearly 23,000 readers participated this year, a 62% increase over 2009. Of the total number of registrants, 17,568 were children and teens. Summer reading is widely considered by educators to be the single most effective activity for combating summer learning loss in students.
